Background
A young, enthusiastic and passionate singer-songwriter, Kim also achieved a BA (hons) of Applied Music from Strathclyde University in 2010. Kim received invaluable vocal coaching from Berklee College Of Music and Harvard's graduate Maureen McMullan, who taught Kim the principles of the Estill Voice Training (EVT) method. This method of deconstructing how the voice mechanisms work, remains influential in her approach to teaching vocals today alongside using the manuals from the Berklee method of Vocal tuition.
Kim began piano and vocal tuition privately in 2010 in Aberdeen. In 2011 she began her journey as a music teacher at Young Musician's Hebrides Community Music School in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, acting as ‘Groups Co-ordinator and Instrumental Tutor’. Kim taught young childrens' music groups, wrote and delivered songwriting and performance workshops for outreach centres on the Isle of Harris and gave Vocal, Piano and Guitar lessons. In 2012 Kim accepted a post as 'Instrumental Tutor' at Chalmers Mackay Music School teaching Piano, Vocals and Guitar with additional theory, songwriting and performance skills coaching for large public performances. Kim entered her students into the London College Music Exams where they received distinctions.
In parallel with teaching at Chalmers Mackay Music School, Kim taught privately at her home. Giving vocal coaching to a backing singer of a famous chart singer who featured on BBC's Breakfast show and began prep work for the international tour.
In parallel to songwriting and performing throughout the country, Kim is now running ‘Kim’s Music Room’ in Cambridge.
